Shipping and the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. It’s going to cost you from 2024 onwards.

The Council and EU Parliament have provisionally agreed to include maritime shipping emissions with a phased introduction on shipping companies to surrender allowances: : 0% for verified emissions from 2024, 70% for 2025 and 100% for 2026.

EU inclusion of shipping in the ETS. Latest developments.

Almost a year ago the EU Commission proposed inclusion of shipping in the Emissions Trading Scheme https://iistl.blog/2021/07/14/bastille-day-eu-commissions-present-to-the-shipping-industry/  with a proposed directive amending the 2003 ETS Directive. EU to get tough on GHG emissions from shipping?

  In October 2014, the EU set domestic GHGs reduction target of at least 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. Shipping is currently outside those targets with climate change regulation for international shipping being parked in the slow lane in the International Maritime Organization.
